Soufflé Pop Serves a Pop Soufflé from Bill Lloyd (2012)
Bill Lloyd's 2012 album "Boy King Of Tokyo" has the multi-talented singer-songwriter taking the recording route that some of rock's finest have tackled early on in their careers like Paul McCartney, Emitt Rhodes and Todd Rundgren by performing every instrument on his record. The lyrical content will most certainly pull you in if you consider yourself a music lover. Rocker Brian Ray sang about "Vinyl" on his debut solo album but Bill goes beyond the soundtrack of our youth and sets focus on that one song that to you was clearly "The Best Record Ever Made".
Bill Lloyd Interview on The Time Machine
Singer-songwriter Bill Lloyd was a recent guest on The Time Machine. The talented artist has made some wonderful recordings on his own and part of the duo Foster & Lloyd. Bill's teaming up with Radney Foster resulted in nine country singles charting in the late eighties. The recording artist, songwriter, musician, and producer shared with the Maui radio audience the story behind his latest album "Boy King Of Tokyo". Bill’s diverse musical activities include working as a producer (ranging from Carl Perkins to MTV reality show indie-rockers, The Secret), a session player (from Brit-pop icons like Ray Davies of The Kinks and Glenn Tilbrook of Squeeze to country legends like Buck Owens and Steve Earle), a sideman (Poco, Marshall Crenshaw and with Cheap Trick when they perform The Beatles' "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" with orchestra) and as a songwriter (with songs cut by Trisha Yearwood, Martina McBride, Sara Evans, Keith Anderson, Hootie and the Blowfish and many more). He has recorded a string of critically acclaimed solo records that blend his melodic power pop sensibility with finely tuned song craft. During his three-year stint as the Stringed Instrument Curator at The Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, he created the quarterly series "Nashville Cats", that he continues to host. He’s the music director for the First Amendment Center in Nashville. He also organized and plays in Nashville’s high concept cover band, The Long Players, who were recently profiled on NPR’s All Things Considered.
Other artists featured on this Maui afternoon FM aircheck include Foster & Lloyd, The La's, Paul & Linda McCartney, Crowded House, Martha Davis, America, Brian Ray, Marshall Crenshaw, Aerosmith, Morrissey and Jackson Browne.
